چکیده

The NASA Lewis Research Center has designed and fabricated a closed-cycle, continuous wave (CW), carbon dioxide (COj) high-power laser to support research for the indentlflcatlon and evaluation of possible high-power laser applications. The device Is designed to generate up to 70 kW of laser power In annular-shape beams from 1 to 9 cm In diameter. Electric discharge, either self-sustained or electron-beam-sustalned, Is used for excitation. This laser facility can be used In two ways. First, It provides a versatile tool on which research can be performed to advance the -state-of-the-art technology of high-power COj lasers . ' • In'such areas as electric excitation, laser chemistry, and quality of output beams, all of "j which are important whether the laser application Is government or Industry oriented. Sec«$ ond, the facility provides a well-defined, continuous wave beam for various application exw perlments, such as propulsion, power conversion, and materials processing.

Influence of shielding gas composition on weld profile in pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding of low carbon steel

Weld area and weld depth/width ratio can be considered to be of the most important geometrical factors in pulsed laser welding. The effects of carbon dioxide and oxygen additions to the argon shielding gas on the weld properties in pulsed laser welding of low carbon steel is investigated. Presence of carbon dioxide and oxygen up to 10 and 15 percent respectively decreases the weld geometrical f...

Influence of shielding gas composition on weld structure in pulsed Nd: YAG laser welding

This work studied the effect of additions of carbon dioxide to argon shielding gas on the weld shape and microstructure of ST14 steel in pulsed Nd: YAG laser welding. By additions of carbon dioxide up to 15%,the weld area and depth/width ratio decreases while rising of carbon dioxide up to 25% causes increasing of weld area and depth/width ratio. It is observed that the weld metal microstructur...

Simulation of effective parameters on low-carbon steel laser welding process using finite element method

In this paper, laser beam welding of a rectangular piece of steel was simulated using Fluent software. Physical properties of analytical field was constant and its changes with temperature was ignored. In the present work, effect of tool speed and laser power on temperature distribution of workpiece surface and different deeps in the plane of symmetry and also maximum of temperature and depth o...

Combination Surgical Excision and Fractional Carbon Dioxide Laser for Treatment of Rhinophyma

Rhinophyma is a severe late complication of rosacea, which is characterized by progressive hyperplasia of sebaceous glands and connective tissue involving the lower two-thirds of the nose. It can be an emotionally devastating disorder, and serve as a medium for occult cancers and other health problems. Many surgical treatments have been advocated, as well as dermabrasion and laser therapy. In l...
